As part of the 40th annual Battery Dance Festival, I'll be showing a solo entitled “The Prayer of Daphnis" for its New York City première. The solo is an excerpt from “Daphnis & Chloé” (my reimagining of Maurice Ravel’s famous score composed in 1912 for the Ballets Russes) incorporating themes of a 2nd century novel by Greek romancer Longus on which it is based to re-imagine the original ballet’s dramatic scenario through a contemporary queer lens. The solo will be danced by New York City Ballet principal dancer Taylor Stanley.
